Weak approach Sends the count of clips, the date you finished, and a line saying to write with any questions. The halfway change is not mentioned, so the first four hundred read as if nothing moved.
Stronger approach Sends a one-page sheet: which rule was used, where he was not certain, what is still unsettled. It names the clip number at which the background-noise rule changed, and what it was before.
Why the stronger approach works The change is the part the next person cannot see. Everything marked before it carries the old decision, and a count does not say which half to trust.
Try a changed situation You are handing a half-finished account book to the next shop assistant on Monday. Which rule still applies?
