Why this matters
A review that applies a brief the writer never saw is unanswerable. They cannot fix a rule they were not given.
Three things to remember
- Read the brief and the whole submission before the first comment.
- Judge the work against its own brief, not against the version you would have written.
- Separate a missed requirement from a difference of taste.
