Name the criterion and the evidence
Write comments that point at one rule and one place in the work, so the writer knows exactly what to change.

You will learn to
Write a comment the writer can act on without asking you a second question.
Why this matters
Feedback works when the writer can produce the fixed version from it. A judgment with no criterion and no location cannot be acted on.
Three things to remember
- Every comment names one criterion and one place in the work.
- Say what a fixed version would contain, not only what is wrong.
- Keep the comment about the work separate from any comment about the person.
See one example
The rubric asks for a caution line in any health-related answer. The submission has none.
Try the judgement yourself
Both answers respond to the task above. One of them does the job better. Which, and why?
Make something yourself
Rewrite this comment so the writer can act on it without asking anything: the answer is not good enough. Name the criterion, the place, and what a fixed version would contain.
